Hawai`i Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives


We are pleased to announce the recently recognized Hawai’i Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives (HAA). The HAA affiliate is the official organization for the ACNM members within the state of Hawaii and will serve as the organizing body for all activities organized by ACNM members in its jurisdiction. We currently represent approximately 35 ACNM members in the state of Hawaii.

  • The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) is the professional association that represents certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives in the United States. With roots dating to 1929, ACNM is the oldest women's health care organization in the United States. ACNM provides research, administers and promotes continuing education
    programs, establishes clinical practice standards, and creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress

  • The mission of ACNM is to promote the health and well-being of women and infants within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by certified nurse-midwives, and certified midwives. The philosophy inherent in the profession states that nurse-midwives believe every individual has the right to safe, satisfying health care with respect for human dignity and cultural variations.

Sunday, January 29, 2012, will be our first general membership meeting and conference in Honolulu. We are expecting to have the ACNM President, Holly Kennedy as our morning speaker with the topic: The preservation and promotion of normal physiologic birth. Following this, Hawaii midwifery practices will be invited to present the “Face of Midwifery in Hawaii”. In addition we are planning a Continuing Education presentation on examining the evidence for practice. All interested parties are welcomed to attend these morning sessions. The afternoon session will consist of the newly formed HAA membership meeting.
